Applications are invited for candidates with an ecological statistics and bioinformatics background to join our growing team as an Environmental Reporting Scientist.

The Environmental Reporting Scientist will be part of the Bioinformatics Team, reporting to the Lead Bioinformatician (R&D), with primary responsibility for delivering accurate, timely, and meaningful biodiversity analyses to our clients across complex, multi-year projects. This role is an important interface between the Business Development Team, Products Team, and Nature Intelligence Team. The role has a focus on commercial report delivery and requires strong project management and technical skills. You must be able to work with clients and the Business Development team to accurately capture analysis requirements for complex projects from key accounts within the business, working across a global environmental niche.

Roles & Responsibilities

General

  • Provide engaging, timely, accurate and statistically valid reports for key accounts
  • Be the primary Bioinformatics point of contact for the Business Development team for bespoke projects
  • Advise clients on study and sampling design to maximise the impact of analysis
  • Provide expert ecological statistical analysis to eDNA datasets
  • Work with the Products Team to define standardized, reporting formats across habitats
  • Develop the statistical repertoire of the Bioinformatics reporting team
  • Own the process of bringing in new statistical tools, metrics, and visualizations into the production bioinformatics environment
  • Support the Bioinformatics reporting team as required

Communication

  • Provide professional, technical expertise in client facing meetings
  • Provide clear internal communications to Business Development and Bioinformatics teams
  • Be proactive and confident in escalating quality issues
  • Attend regular update meetings with the wider team

Documentation

    • Provide detailed ecological reports on eDNA for key accounts and multi-year projects
    • Document client calls, analysis requirements for the Bioinformatics team

    Person Specification

    Education & Qualifications

    • PhD with a focus on ecological statistics applied to eDNA or focused on eDNA analysis

    Specialist Knowledge, Skills & Experience

      • Ecological survey design
      • Ecological statistical analysis in R, with visualisation and data presentation
      • Good grounding in molecular biology and eDNA analysis
      • Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines

      It would also be an advantage to have:

        • Delivering projects in a commercial environment
        • Report writing for commercial clients
        • Experience of qPCR
        • Strong interpersonal skills
        • Strong project management skills
        • Experience of bioinformatics tools/workflows for eDNA analysis
